Severin (Sev) Oman recently returned to his native Minnesota, and is the Executive Director of Minnesota Brownfields, an organization which promotes the clean-up and development of contaminated land, to improve
the environment, promote economic development, and benefit people and communities.

Sev worked with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for five years. He focused on designing and implementing projects to support development
of the agribusiness sector in Armenia, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Previously Sev worked with the Millennium Villages Project of Columbia University, which focused on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (the precursor to the Sustainable Development Goals) in Mali, Senegal, Ghana, Burundi and Ivory Coast. This work in Africa was directed to supporting communities becoming more productive in agriculture, growing enough food for family nutritional needs, and making linkages with markets for excess production.

His presentation will focus on his experiences with UNIDO and FAO in Armenia and Bangladesh, with examples of the type of work that the UN is doing to support countries to develop their agricultural and agro-industrial
sectors.
