Global Classrooms Model United Nations Trainer
Time Frame: September 10th, 2010 – June 30th, 2011
Time Commitment: up to 10 hours / week
Stipend: $10/hour
Summary of the Program:
Global Classrooms is an exciting, hands-on education program serving 7th-12th grade students in
Minneapolis, St. Paul, and suburban area schools. Students learn about the United Nations, and build
skills in research, writing, public speaking and negotiation. The classroom learning culminates in a daylong
Model UN Conference where students represent their assigned country, playing the role of
diplomat and addressing current international issues.
A Model UN Trainer is expected to:
• Visit participating Global Classrooms schools to help implement the program, instruct on Model UN Rules of Procedure, run simulations and assist students with skill building (research, resolution writing, public speaking, negotiation, etc.)
• Assist with Global Classrooms Minnesota Model UN Conferences throughout the school year
• Work closely with the Global Classrooms Program Coordinator and Program Associate to carry out program initiatives
• Attend Professional Development workshops designed for Global Classrooms teachers
• Assist with other projects as assigned
Requirements:
• Experience in Model UN (high school and/or college)
• Currently enrolled as a college student in the Twin Cities metro area
• Available up to 10 hours per week to work with others and/ or independently
• Access to transportation to local schools (possible carpooling)
• Demonstrated attention to details and ability to complete assigned tasks
•Comfortable speaking in front of small and large audiences
