Afghanistan: Genocide, Crimes against Humanity, War Crimes, and The International Criminal Court
October 24, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
This program examines the crisis in Afghanistan: genocide perpetrated against the minority Hazara people; crimes against humanity and war crimes; the persecution of women and girls; the ‘resource curse’ of rare earth elements in the country; and the roles of the US, China, Pakistan, and India.
Many agencies of the United Nations have attempted to resolve the conflict, provide humanitarian aid, and assist hundreds of thousands of Afghan people who are displaced from their homes and their country.
Speakers Ellen J. Kennedy, Ph.D., Executive Director of World Without Genocide, and Caitlin Schweiger, J.D., Benjamin B. Ferencz Fellow in Human Rights and Law at World Without Genocide, will highlight the current investigation at the International Criminal Court to prosecute perpetrators from the United States, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.
The program, co-sponsored by the United Nations Association of Minnesota in commemoration of United Nations Day, is open to the public. Registration is required by Oct. 23 at www.worldwithoutgenocide.org/afghanistan
General public $10; students and seniors $5; Mitchell Hamline students free; $25 for 1.5 CLE credits for Minnesota lawyers (pending).
